The Programme is designed to meet the present-day law enforcement requirements of candidates working in the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services and other Government Departments. It is designed to reflect an approach to application of law enforcement principles to contemporary policing and emphasize the acquisition of measurable skills, knowledge and attitudes and demonstrable importance and relevance to professional law enforcement agents.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme students should be able to:

  • Reflect on the historic development of Public Relations as a discipline.
  • Apply the theories of Public Relations in context of the organisation.
  • Provide a comprehensive training base to police officers and other stakeholders within the domain of Public Relations.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate marketing strategies and select appropriate media.
  • Write meaningful speeches and design proper exhibitions.
  • Demonstrate the use of a wide range of contemporary policing techniques, and to evaluate the appropriateness of the techniques for the use in selected law enforcement settings in Zimbabwe.

The duration of the programme shall be four (4) academic semesters. The diploma will be completed within a minimum period of two years.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission applicants must: –

  • Satisfy the minimum requirements of passes in at least five [5] subjects, including English Language and Mathematics at ‘O’ Level.
  • Must be of the rank of Sergeant and above or equivalent and serving in one of the three uniformed forces in Zimbabwe or other government departments.

 

Target Audience

The program targets police officers and other members from the uniformed forces doing press and public relations duties.

 

Career Prospects

Graduates will be deployed as:

  • Exhibitors
  • Community Relations Officers.
