The module is intended to equip and guide Police Officers in Policing and Democracies, in investigating and proper management of criminal matters with expertise, professionalism and the impartiality that is inherent in it. It is designed to reflect an approach to application of law enforcement principles to contemporary policing, criminal procedure and emphasize the acquisition of measurable skills, knowledge and attitudes and demonstrable importance and relevance to professional law enforcement agents.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme students should be able to:

  • Investigate and properly handle criminal matters.
  • Investigate and detect commercial crime.
  • Teach novices on how to prevent and detect crime.
  • Analyze and explain the systematic evidence gathering.
  • Outline and be able to follow the criminal procedures in Zimbabwe.
  • Observe the constitutional rights of offenders.
  • Describe and demonstrate the use of a range of contemporary policing techniques, and to evaluate the appropriateness of the techniques for the use in selected law enforcement settings in Zimbabwe.

Duration

The duration of the programme shall range from 26 to 52 weeks comprising of 12 academic study weeks, 6 weeks attachment at OIC/MIC Crime and 8 weeks attachment at a CID station subject to assessment by Police Staff College. The certificate will be completed within a minimum period of six months.

 

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission applicants must: –

  • Satisfy the minimum requirements of passes in at least five [5] subjects, including English Language and Mathematics at ‘O’ Level AND
  • Must have attained a minimum rank of Sergeant and serving in one of the three uniformed forces in Zimbabwe.

 

 

Target Audience

The program targets police officers and other members from the uniformed forces doing investigation duties.
