The Programme is designed to meet the present-day law enforcement and scientific investigation requirements for the police. It is designed to equip police members and officers with the requisite knowledge and skills in the investigation of cybercrimes.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the basic components of the computer system.
  • Exhibit knowledge of the classifications of cybercrimes.
  • Apply techniques of gathering electronic evidence in the digital environment not overlooking other forms of evidence.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts of cyber security.
  • Apply the techniques of attending and managing cybercrime scenes.
  • Exhibit knowledge of maintenance of the chain of custody in digital evidence handling.
  • Apply techniques of preserving the integrity of digital evidence.
  • Apply techniques of recovering evidence from mobile devices, computers and networks.
  • Perform collaborative activities to develop a familiarity with the cybercrime legal framework.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cybercrime Standard Operating Procedures.

Duration

The duration of the programme shall range from 3 to 6 academic semesters. The diploma will be completed within a minimum period of one and half years.

 

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission applicants must: –

 

  • Have a minimum of at least five [5] subjects passed with grade C or better, including English Language, Science and Mathematics at O’ Level;

 

Target Audience

The program targets police officers and other members from the uniformed forces in the ICT section and those doing crime and investigations duties.

 

Career Prospects

Graduates will be deployed as:

  • Cybercrime Investigators and Managers
  • Cyber Security Incident Responders
  • Cybercrime First Responders.
