Diploma in Law

The Programme is designed to meet the present-day law enforcement requirements of candidates working in the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Prison Service and other Government Departments. It is designed to reflect an approach to application of law enforcement principles to contemporary policing and emphasise the acquisition of measurable skills, knowledge and attitudes and demonstrable importance and relevance to professional law enforcement agents. The program is offered by the College seek to promote and give effect to the concepts of innovation, community engagement, and industrialization.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme students should be able to

• Explain the influence of psychological, physiological and sociological factors relevant to law enforcement.
• Derive insights from historical, philosophical and current cross-cultural developments in law enforcement and to apply lessons learned from these insights to problems related to law enforcement in Zimbabwe.
• Apply principles of legal, democratic and contemporary policing to the solution of problems typical of law enforcement settings in Zimbabwe.
• Assess the relevance and applicability of a variety of administrative and supervisory techniques to the implementation of law enforcement programmes and to the supervision of law enforcement personnel; and
• Demonstrate the use of a range of contemporary policing techniques, and to evaluate the appropriateness of the techniques for the use in selected law enforcement settings in Zimbabwe.

All students will take eleven courses including a research project in part two of the Diploma programme in the student’s own special field of practice.
